Hyperthermia is a cancer treatment modality in which tumour tissue is heated to temperatures of 39–43°C to enhance the effectiveness of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. At these temperatures, hyperthermia acts as a potent radio- and chemosensitiser — inhibiting DNA repair, improving tissue blood flow and oxygenation, and increasing vessel permeability, making tumour cells significantly more vulnerable to radiation and systemic therapies.
Superficial hyperthermia combined with radiotherapy is included in leading international breast cancer treatment guidelines, including DEGRO, AGO and the German S3 guidelines, and is cited as an approved method in the Quality Assurance Guidelines for Superficial Hyperthermia Clinical Trials issued by the European Society for Hyperthermic Oncology (ESHO).
The hydrosun® TWH1500
RMS Medical Supplies is the authorised UK distributor for the hydrosun® TWH1500 — the world’s first device for effective contact-free superficial hyperthermia, developed and manufactured by Hydrosun Medizintechnik GmbH, Müllheim, Germany, in partnership with heckel medizintechnik gmbh, a pioneer in the field of hyperthermia.
The TWH1500 uses Water-filtered Infrared A (wIRA) technology to deliver a high and compliant energy input to deeper tissue layers — achieving an effective heating depth of at least 20mm (>39°C) with maximum skin temperature set at 42–43°C, while reducing the incidence of thermal skin damage (TSD) to almost 0%. A computer-controlled feedback system registers the detailed temperature distribution of the treated skin area in real time, providing automatic on/off control within a defined maximum temperature range with all treatment data documented and stored.
Key Features
Contact-free energy delivery — no body fixation or painful applicator contact, including with ulcerated lesions
Continuous real-time thermographic control with automatic switch on/off functions
Twin-applicator system covering large treatment areas regardless of heterogenous body contours
Effective heating depth of at least 20mm (>39°C) with maximum skin temperature set at 42–43°C
Acute thermal skin damage reduced to almost 0%
Compatible with metal implants and pacemakers — no shielding required
Real-time physiological monitoring during and after treatment
